Weather

When you have lived in Florida as long as we have, you learn to take the weather forecasts with a grain of salt.  The forecast weather shown on the Weather Channel and others will often show the weather as  worse than it really is.  We're not quite sure why they do this but when they say "partly cloudy", we find it usually means "mostly sunny".  When they say "chance of thunderstorm" we know it means, "Probably not where you are".   Two of the most frequently used words are "isolated" and "scattered".  These words have specific meanings.  Yet the daily forecasts show cartoon depictions of the sun covered with ominous grey clouds and lightning bolts falling from the sky even when there own commentary states only a 20% or 30% probability that something will happen somewhere in South Florida.  Most often, nothing happens.

Even the worst days have a great deal of sun.  The only nearly correct prognostication about the weather is the humidity in the summer months but even this is usually lower than New York, Washington or Houston.  However, we still have the ocean, unpolluted skies and palm trees, in addition to ice cold air conditioning and shark free swimming pools..

The real secret to south Florida weather is the Gulf Stream.  In winter it keeps us warmer and in summer it keeps us cooler.  Even the weather five miles inland is quite different than on the coast.  The Gulf Stream starts heading for England around Boca Raton.  This is one reason why London, England is fairly temperate year round, since it is on the same latitude as Lower James Bay in Canada and would be frozen tundra otherwise.  Even the rest of Florida has quite different weather than the magic coast from Palm Beach to the Keys.   One thing we know for sure is that whatever the weather is here, it is invariably better than anywhere else.

We would highly recommend you go to our "LINKS" site and click on the beach web cam for the best representation of the current  weather or just click here: http://www.sunny.org/webcam/camapp.cfm or http://elboroom.com/FL/Webcams/webcams-streaming.asp?s=1&c=1

Aaahh, another day in Paradise.
