RECENTLY, FLORIDA POWER AND LIGHT, FLORIDA'S ELECTRIC UTILITY, SEVERELY CUT BACK THE TREES FROM BONNET HOUSE BACKING ON TO VISTAMAR VILLA IN ORDER TO MINIMIZE THE POSSIBILITY OF TREE LIMBS FALLING ON ELECTRICAL WIRES DURING SEVERE STORMS. THESE TREES WERE THE MAIN ROADS BY WHICH THE MONKEYS MOVED AROUND THEIR TERRITORY. AS A CONSEQUENCE, THE FOREST COVER FOR THE MONKEYS HAS BEEN REMOVED LEAVING THEM EXPOSED TO DANGER. AS A CONSEQUENCE THEIR VISITS ARE NOW EXTREMELY RARE.
Frederic and Evelyn Bartlett, the founders of Bonnet House, and their pet Brazilian squirrel monkeys. The monkeys' descendants come around to the back fence of Vistamar Villa for handouts. We would stress that the monkeys do not live here. They live in Bonnet House which abuts our property. They come by two or three times a day usually in the morning and wait around to be be fed. You can recognize their presence by the bird like chirping sound they make. We recommend raw peanuts, fruits and other natural foods. Please don't feed them crackers or white bread or other processed food.
