You do not need to look any further than the Vistamar Villa if you are looking for friendly, tranquil accomodation situated near scenic A1A and two blocks from Fort Lauderdale beach.  The Vistamar is set in tropical flora backing on to the Bonnet House and Museum grounds.   All units are air conditioned with color cable TV with 68 channels and free, wireless, high speed internet.

Please don't mistake us for the Ritz or the Trump.  We are a period hotel providing a spacious and comfortable environment.  One of our guests from Denmark wrote in a review that we were "hyggeligt" which means "cosy".

One should also remember that Fort Lauderdale is not Miami Beach.  Fort Lauderdale offers a varity of nightclubs and restaurants like South Beach but  life is also a little more laid back with a lot more to offer with museums, state parks, cultural venues, everglades day trips, day fishing boats, scuba diving and, of course, lots of shopping.  We even have our own version of Rodeo Drive: Las Olas Boulevard.

For your convenience, we offer a heated pool, barbeque, guest laundry facility and furnished patio areas with Gazebos in a courtyard setting.  Fine restaurants, specialty shops and the Galleria Mall, one of Fort Lauderdale's largest shopping malls, are within a half to one mile.  We offer easy access to the many amenities of Fort Lauderdale and South Florida.  Fort Lauderdale's International Airport is only 8 miles away and the Port Everglades cruise port is 5 miles.

The Atlantic Monthly | June 2007

In Florida, a quest for the classic family motel

Motel Paradiso

(Excerpt from June 2007 issue of The Atlantic Monthly)

……………………That night was not over yet, so I drove up to Fort Lauderdale, where I’d heard there was another cluster of vintage motels. I found them a couple of blocks off the beach and secured a room at the Vistamar Villa, a two-story L-shaped motel bent around a woggle-shaped pool and lushly landscaped courtyard. The owners, who have kept up the place immaculately, told me the hotel was built in 1959 and has easily survived every hurricane thrown at it.................................

.............................My room at the Vistamar was large and had a bright bathroom full of yellow tile. The front window slid open, and in the back were jalousie windows that I cranked wide to let in the breeze. Then I sprawled across the bed and drifted off to the gentle nattering of venetian blinds.

Sometimes you can go home again. It’s just that home may not be where you left it.
